News commentary
Feb. 8th, 2006 05:02 pmSlashdot is having a very interesting day today.
This and this make me supremely happy. I've been doing a lot of research on DRM lately, and I find it absolutely disgusting that anyone could sell digital files that can't even be burned to CD. Yes, I know that a burned CD can be easily ripped to a non-DRM format, but there's no way in hell I'd ever buy a file that I couldn't use as I saw fit. I'm beginning to fall very squarely in the fair-use camp: DRM is a violation of it, and ought to be at least restricted, if not illegal... especially when used to protect proprietary interests and brand names, rather than to protect copyrights.
This is just spiffy. And this is intriguing.
And finally, this looks like a very promising use of stem cells, and this is maybe the most heart-warming science story I've ever read.
